“In order to succeed, your desire for success must be greater than your fear of failure!” This quote is more than just another piece of motivational jargons, it is a well-known secret to success. You can not let your fear of failing overpower your drive and desire to succeed. Once you’ve done this, you have almost completely stamped your fate. But if you have a strong desire and harness it towards achieving success, then reaching your goal would become much easier.
In the process of being successful, regardless of the activity being succeeded at, four zones are passed through. The first zone is known as the comfort zone, and this is the period where you experience good feelings like calmness, familiarity, and control. In this zone, your brain will release happy chemicals like serotonin and dopamine. You will work with a full sense of comfortability, with little distress or expedition of energy, and it might seem like a great place to be at. This is the reason why so many people are in the comfort zone, but the bad news is that nothing ever grows there! Achieving success means that you will have to eventually take a step out of this comfort zone and push past your boundaries. As you begin to make the long foray out of your comfort zone, you need to prepare yourself for zone 2.
Zone 2 is the fear zone! It is in this period that you will experience feelings of anxiety, distress, and worry. Instead of releasing the happy chemicals, your brain will block them and instead produce chemicals like glutamate and adrenaline. This is your brain’s way of preventing you from trying to succeed, and a lot of people find themselves stuck in this zone. Staying in it for a long time might seem comfortable, but you can not experience success if you do not push through and get out of this zone!
Why are we so particular about you pushing past the comfort and fear zones? That is because right after, you will enter into the learning and growth zones. This is where major progress happens! Before you can get into these zones, you will need to spend some time working on yourself. You must learn how to overcome your fears and thrive in uncomfortable conditions. The more you practice and work on yourself, the more comfortable you will be doing things that previously induced fear in you.
By the time you enter the learning zone, you would be very well-equipped on how to deal with irregular problems. You would be experienced in overcoming fear and exuding confidence. Acquiring new skills and surviving harsh challenges will become fairly simple for you.
The secret to you being the best you can be is spending as much time as possible in the growth zone. Know your purpose and direct your energy into ensuring you achieve it. You can always slip back into the comfort zone now and again, but do not get too familiar with it and spend as little time there as you possibly can. Most of your time should be spend pushing boundaries, learning, and sharing experiences. If you can live most of your life in the growth zone, then you will understand why life does not need to get easier, but you just need to get better!
